As we approach a new tax year there are many changes to consider.
New Personal Allowance
The new rate for the personal allowance is £11000 per year. Therefore a standard tax code of 1100L.
In basic terms this means £916.67 per month, or £211.54 per week tax free.
Of course we shouldn’t forget that NI kicks in at lower levels.
The point at which NI contributions start is £8112 per year, which equates to £676 per month and £156.00 per week. (Different rates apply for Employees under 21 and apprentices).
NLW – National Living Wage
In recent years changes to National Minimum wage rates have been applied from 1 October each year.
Now we have a change in April. It is the introduction of the National Living Wage. This applies for employees 25 and over only. The mandatory rate will be £7.20. For employees.
For employees under 25 the current National Minimum wage rates continue to apply.
Automatic Enrolment
Auto Enrolment is starting to hit smaller employers. Many have a staging date of 1 April 2016.
These employers need to be prepared and have a Qualifying Pension Scheme ready to offer to employees from their staging date.
If you would like to find out what your staging date is follow this link to an easy to use tool on the Pension regulators website.

The running and administration of your Auto Enrolment pension scheme can be a minefield.
Every pay day your workforce needs to be assessed to check if any have moved into a new category of worker. This could be due to a change in age, a bonus could push someone who earned under the AE threshold into the category where they need to be enrolled. Etc etc etc! We could fill pages with the various scenarios.
When we run your payroll for you we have all of this information within our system as part of the payroll, so with our AE software we are able to do all of this monitoring for you. We can also produce all of the communications that need to be sent to your employees at various stages and categories of their positions in the AE system.
This basically means that we make something that could be so complicated into something easy for you. Along with that you avoid the hefty fines from the Pension Regulator for non-compliance.
We also offer free consultation sessions with our clients so that you can be informed on everything you need to know about auto-enrolment.
If you would like more information on how we can help you please get in touch.
In the meantime, happy trading and if we can be of any help to anyone on any payroll or pension related matters please get in touch. We enjoy talking to our clients and think the personal touch makes a massive difference.
